Bordeaux, New York Style

WINE #1

2018 The Lenz Winery
Malbec
North Fork of Long Island, New York

In 1977, Peter & Patricia Lenz, inspired by friends, traded fine dining for fine wine. They planted Gewürztraminer, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot on their North Fork property, patiently waiting for years to ensure strong vines. Their converted barn became The Lenz Winery in 1978. In 1988, the winery passed to Peter & Deborah Carroll, equally dedicated to quality. They brought in Eric Fry as winemaker and Sam McCullough as vineyard manager, solidifying The Lenz Winery's reputation for rich, complex wines that age beautifully.

Well-rounded, this rich Malbec is packed with typical varietal notes of dark plums, red cherries, and blackcurrants. This unfiltered wine has excellent tannin structure that allows it to age beautifully. Pair with tomato-based pasta sauces, meatloaf, roasted chicken, and roasted pork loin.

WINE #2

2020 Boundary Breaks Harmonic Red
Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon
Finger Lakes, New York

A career shift at 50 led Bruce Murray from the world of New York City publishing to the fertile grounds of the Finger Lakes AVA. In 2007, he purchased a 120-acre plot on Seneca Lake, transforming former soybean and cornfields into a vineyard. The transition, as Bruce says, felt natural: "It offered a similar level of risk and challenge I craved." Growing up near the Finger Lakes, Bruce recognized the region's unique potential for cool-climate Vitis vinifera grapes. "The climate here hits a sweet spot," he explains, "allowing these grapes to flourish and produce exceptional wines, particularly Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Cabernet Franc."

This bold red bursts with blueberry, raspberry, and black currant. Earthy notes of cedar, cocoa, and a hint of acetic acid add complexity. The soft, slightly gritty finish with tart berry fruit is ideal for steak, burgers, or roasted lamb.
